3rd Graders Experience Fire Safety House

Pleasant Hill Elementary 3rd grade classes moved learning outside of the classroom as the Iowa Fire Safety House made a special trip to the school to offer students the opportunity to learn about fire prevention and fire safety in a hands-on environment. Students entered the Fire Safety House, which is a mobile RV style home that includes a kitchen and a bedroom. Students entered the house, where they learned about fire safety and escape routes, the house filled with non-toxic smoke that created a realistic fire condition. Students then, with the assistance of firefighters, attempted to exit the Fire Safety House. One student shared that the experience was “helpful, because we learned how to use a ladder to go out a window.” Firefighters offered a question and answer session with students as they gave a firetruck tour afterward.
